Do you know the feeling that the days go by more slowly in January than the rest of the year? After the holiday rush, the weeks slow down, there’s less to do, and the weather doesn’t cheer us up\u2026 But P\u00e9cs has plenty to offer in the colder months, and it’s a great opportunity to get to know the city better, whether as a resident or a tourist. Culture lovers will be able to choose from a wide range of interesting and varied events. Here are a few events in P\u00e9cs to add to your calendar – we guarantee that this will make the dark, gloomy winter go by faster!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ROCK POP UNDERGROUND: GraphicP\u00e9cs2024<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Date: extended until 23 February<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The iconic GraphicP\u00e9cs meme that visual culture and music are closely intertwined. The exhibition features more than 1,300 works, posters, album covers and band logos, showcasing underground movements from the 1960s uprising to the present day. It is a fascinating journey through time for those who want to better understand how rock culture shaped the thinking of an entire era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“LET ME BE MYSELF – The life story of Anne Frank” exhibition<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Date: 17 January – 22 February<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition on the life and legacy of Anne Frank is both moving and educational. Through Anne’s story, we gain a deeper insight into identity, prejudice and human rights, and through her life we learn about European Jewry and the Jews of P\u00e9cs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An exciting programme for those interested in contemporary art, Di\u00e1na B\u00f3bics’ exhibition brings the world of contrasts to life through the interplay of colours and shapes. Abstract expression, versatile use of technique, deep connection with the environment. We highly recommend it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE HISTORY AND SECRETS OF THE BISHOP’S PALACE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tour of the Bishop’s Palace with its historic atmosphere gives you an insight into the daily life of bishops from different eras. A medieval tunnel and stories of 20th century communist surveillance are fascinating additions to the tour. Audioguide is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Budapest International Documentary Film Festival in P\u00e9cs will once again screen the world’s best documentaries. After the screenings, professional discussions will provide a great opportunity to delve deeper into the themes presented by the films. The films are shown in the original language with Hungarian subtitles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A SCIENTIST’S ART COLLECTION<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Date: 30 January – 30 March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art lovers should not miss the temporary exhibition of the Ubrizsy Collection, which presents works by some of the most outstanding artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Dr. G\u00e1bor Ubrizsy is a Kossuth Prize winner, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, former director and scientific advisor of the Plant Protection Research Institute, and a gold medal holder of the Order of Labour Merit. He is an internationally renowned botanist, mycologist, plant pathologist, and the initiator of mycological research in Hungary. In addition to his professional interests, from the 1950s onwards he was a dedicated collector of outstanding works of Hungarian art, with a particular sensitivity to the modern aspirations of the 19th and 20th centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
