This exciting hike uncovers the hidden underground world of the Mecsek Mountains. Following forest trails, you\u2019ll explore karst formations and mysterious sinkholes, accompanied by the silence of nature and the remnants of ancient geological activity. Starting at the Misina Tet\u0151Pont, the trail descends through classic ridge paths all the way to Orf\u0171, passing several remarkable caves and sinkholes along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Route and highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour begins at Misina Tet\u0151Pont, where a scenic caf\u00e9 offers a last chance for a nice drink or a sweet treat before setting off. The trail initially follows the for 1.5 km, then continues along the Rotary Trail toward Lapis. After a short stretch on the <\/strong> trail, you\u2019ll reach Lapis, from where the trail leads through beautiful woodlands framed by the Remeter\u00e9t and Lapisi forest roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIP:<\/em> For an extra scenic detour, consider following the trail from Misina to Lapis via the Kis- and Nagy-Tubes lookout towers for breathtaking panoramic views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The B\u00fcd\u00f6s-k\u00fat trail shelter lies halfway between Misina and Orf\u0171, accessible via the trail. Several nearby springs provide cool drinking water for passing hikers. Continuing toward Orf\u0171, the trail passes numerous dolines \u2013 sinkholes whose cave entrances are often visible from the surface, making them especially exciting to explore with children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the best-known caves in this area include the Spir\u00e1l Sinkhole<\/strong>, B\u00fcd\u00f6sk\u00fat Shaft<\/strong>, Palermo Sinkhole<\/strong>, and K\u00f6teles Shaft<\/strong> \u2013 but the landscape is dotted with many smaller karst formations as well. These features are part of one of the Mecsek\u2019s most important water-draining systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the trail, the dark mouth of the Dragon Ravine (S\u00e1rk\u00e1ny-szakad\u00e9k) soon appears \u2013 a dramatic sinkhole said to have once housed a dragon, according to local legend. Close by is the Water-Swallow Cave (V\u00edznyel\u0151-barlang), a small but striking formation shaped by seasonal water runoff. The path winds through sculpted gullies and narrow passages that lend a mystical atmosphere to the hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail reaches the outskirts of Orf\u0171, where you switch briefly to the trail, then follow the <\/strong> <\/strong>markers to reach the V\u00edzf\u0151 Spring<\/strong>. Here, the waters that vanished into the caves finally reemerge. The 500-meter-long V\u00edzf\u0151 Cave<\/strong> is part of the region\u2019s karst water system. The area features rest benches, informative signage, and fresh spring water for hikers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
