Bauhaus was the most significant art movement in the first half of the 20th century centring around constructive and artistic endeavours that sought to reinvent educational and artistic approaches. The movement combined crafts with fine arts as well as aesthetics with everyday function. A new approach was utilized to create shapes. The forms, shapes, patterns, and materials artists used corresponded with their functionality and practicality. Understanding and utilizing different types of materials provided artists with a new mode of expression.

Bauhaus artists affiliated with Pécs who earned international recognition include world famous architect and designer Marcel Breuer, architect and painter Alfréd Forbát, fresco painter Henrik Stefán, architect, painter and graphic designer Farkas Molnár, and painter Hugo Johan.
