A Czech Painter in Pécs
Věra Jičínská’s exhibition in Pécs is justified not only by the artist’s significance but also by her direct connection to the city. The painter, who studied under Fernand Léger in Paris and worked primarily in the spirit of Cubism and Purism, had a father who worked as a mining director in Pécs. Jičínská herself was a member of the Pécs Society of Fine Artists and Art Patrons, and as a precursor to the current exhibition, she participated in the organization’s group exhibitions from 1927 to 1930.
The exhibition at the JPM Modern Hungarian Picture Gallery offers a rare opportunity to discover this remarkable and increasingly popular Czech artist of interwar modern painting.
