The German Local Council of Pécs has been in operation since 1994. In recent years, the members of the council have primarily sought to revive the German identity of the city’s German community – which had declined sharply following the Second World War – strengthen and preserve it, and to create opportunities for more and more people in and around Pécs to discover their German roots and then to nurture and develop them on a regular basis.
