Croatian Local Council of Pécs

The Croatian Local Council of Pécs was established following the first minority elections held in 1994 and has been operating successfully ever since. It has been involved in numerous festive and cultural events, publications and commemorations. For decades now, it has been the case that more than a quarter of Hungary’s Croatian population has lived in Baranya County, and Pécs has become one of the centres of the Croatian community in Hungary. The past, present and, we hope, future of the county and Pécs are inconceivable without the Croatians living here. The local council and the Croatian community have always contributed significantly to the diversity of the city’s cultural life, because they feel that Pécs is their home, they are proud of it, and they do everything in their power to enhance its reputation.
