Bulgarian Local Council of Pécs

The Bulgarian Local Council of Pécs was established in 1995. Its chairman for 24 years was Jordán Bonev, who brought the Bulgarian community together. The council has always regarded the preservation of Bulgarian traditions, the revival of old customs, their presentation, and the strengthening of solidarity amongst members of the Bulgarian community in Pécs as its primary tasks.

What is the secret behind the fact that, for centuries, despite world wars and historical upheavals, the Bulgarians in Hungary have preserved the strength of their community and maintained their institutional framework?

The secret lies in our past. The secret lies in the love of our homeland and our desire for freedom, handed down to us by our ancestors. The secret lies in decent and honest work and the tolerance of our host nation. The secret lies in our dual identity.
