Pécs Zoo: Make sure you visit PécsZOO in Mecsek, as the life of animals is always fascinating. Young and old can observe 250 species in the beautiful natural environment of the 4-hectare zoo. The aquariums and terrariums of sharks, fish, amphibians are true rarities, not to mention the enclosures of hippos, lions and seals.
Mecsextrém Park: One of the biggest adventure parks in the country, Mecsextrém Park is guaranteed to provide a fun experience for the whole family. The alpine ropes course installed between the tree branches will test the agility of adults and children alike, and the 25-car forest bobsleigh track unique in Europe offers a special adventure.
Narrow-gauge Railway in Mecsek: The line is less than 600 metres long, connecting the Zoo and Dömörkapu in Mecsek, with only 2 stops, but you should try it nonetheless! It runs every day from May to September, and mostly on weekends during the rest of the year.
Bóbita Puppet Theatre in Zsolnay Quarter: They await the whole family in the puppet theatre season (September to June) with new shows every year, infant theatre programmes, puppet-making workshops and a story corner.
Labor – Interactive magic space for older children in the Zsolnay Quarter: They can learn about the world of physics through two dozens of exciting games and scientific experiments, including a flight simulator, plasma globe and the Hall of Light.
Planetarium: Scientific adventures, fantastic space voyages, interesting stories await all who are interested in astrology from the youngest to the oldest in the Zsolnay Quarter of Pécs.
Natural History Museum: Besides the third biggest collection of birds’ eggs, children can see here the footsteps of the Mecsek dinosaur living on the swampy shores of the Pannonian Sea, and the bones of the “Mammoth of Pécs” among the ice-age fossils.
TV Tower: The TV Tower and Lookout of Pécs is the tallest building in Hungary. The 197-metre-tall structure stands on the Misina peak of Mecsek, 535 metres above sea level. The lookout tower with the greatest 360° panoramas of Central Europe offers supreme scenery to look at. Children may also access the tower.
Trüffel Cake Shop and its playground: One of the best cake shops of Pécs. Exciting flavours, pastries, ice cream and cakes made of high-quality ingredients. Truffle takes care of the needs of people with dietary restrictions too. In the garden, children can play with exciting toys in the huge playground while their parents enjoy a cup of coffee sitting at the tables.
Tufa Cave: The Tufa Cave of Tettye in Pécs is a unique geological formation. The cave system is about ten thousand years old, and it developed in porous, thick tufa. The tunnels have been artificially expanded and new corridors have been dug in the mountain over the centuries, creating a small mazelike system. There was a time when these underground cavities functioned as living spaces. Not to mention the dragon that lives here according to legend, and whom the children can meet in one of the tunnels.
Pintér Botanical Garden: It is found in Pécs’s Tettye district that reaches up the side of Mecsek. It was named after a retired bank officer János Pintér of Pécs (1879–1933). Besides the leafy trees, evergreens, bushes and perennials planted as a botanical collection, the garden features over thirty protected species of plants, including several species of Ruscus, black bryony, and even the specially protected Paeonia banatica.
There are orchids of significant value, and many domestic plants native to the southern slopes of Mecsek can be found here accompanied by sub-Mediterranean and Mediterranean species. The area has too protected plant communities as well. The garden is open on weekends too between 1 March and 31 October.
PTE Botanic Garden: The Botanic Garden found in the premises of the University of Pécs has a fantastic greenhouse and arboretum. The collection of the 6.85-hectare garden currently features over 8000 kinds of plants, about 5000 of them are in the outdoor area, and about 3000 are in the greenhouse. The number of individual plants is over 100,000.
There are 350 protected and specially protected species. 60 of the 66 animal species found in the garden are protected. It is a truly stress-free zone for university students, visitors of the nearby hospital and children of course. They also employ horticultural therapists and provide an opportunity to recharge and relax for children and adults.
Brummogda: Souvenir teddies, a bear clinic, big and small, old and young teddy bears welcome curious visitors here. A 15–20 cm teddy bear takes about 2–3 hours of sewing and patching. The Brummogda bear hospital can be visited with a prior appointment.
