PTE Pannon Children's Choir

PTE Pannon Children’s Choir was founded in September 2015 in Pécs, Hungary. Our members are primary and secondary school students from schools in the city of Pécs. In addition to thorough preparation, the Children’s Choir has been working on a successful debut. In June 2016, we gave an independent concert in Pécs, in the House of Arts and Literature.

The main patron of the concert was Mrs Zoltánné Kodály, the widow of the world-famous Hungarian composer. The children’s choir receives many invitations, both in Hungary and abroad. The children’s choir is a favourite performer at festivals and premieres. We have given joint concerts with world-famous Hungarian musicians, sung on live radio broadcasts and made recordings. Our repertoire includes traditional choral works, works by Zoltán Kodály, Béla Bartók, Lajos Bárdos and József Karai, but we also participate in the presentation of contemporary Hungarian and universal music.

The artistic director and choirmaster of the choir is Tamás Schóber, a composer and music teacher, who has achieved significant national and international competition results and successes with his choirs over the past three decades. His ensembles have performed in 30 countries around the world, giving concerts, participating in competitions and promoting Zoltán Kodály’s pedagogical concept and teaching methodology. His work and achievements have been recognised in Europe, Canada, China and the United States of America.  He was also the conductor of one of the ambassador choirs of Europa Cantat 2015. The Pannon Children’s Choir made its debut at Carniege Hall in New York in 2017. The conductor is assisted by his former student András Rébék-Nagy.
