Council for National Minorities

It is a great pleasure and honour for me to welcome you to the website of the Council for National Minorities!

The true value of our city lies not only in its buildings, parks or history, but in the human diversity that we create together. We can be particularly proud that 11 national communities – the Bulgarian, Greek, Croatian, Polish, German, Armenian, Roma, Romanian, Rusyn, Serbian and Ukrainian communities – live, create, teach, celebrate and commemorate here, at home.

Each ethnic group is a world of its own, yet together we shape the atmosphere, rhythm and values of our city. Together, we are truly rich. Together, we are a genuine alliance.

It is a matter close to my heart that these communities should not only survive but grow stronger – so that everyone who cherishes an ethnic tradition can experience support, consideration and acceptance. It is important to me that we have points of contact – not just at events, but in everyday life too. That there be dialogue, listening and cooperation. Because a loving, diverse city begins where we turn towards one another with open hearts.

This website, our other existing platforms and the spaces we have yet to envisage together all serve precisely this purpose. We would like to provide effective updates on the work of the Nationalities Council, showcase our programmes and events, and also give you the opportunity to get involved in this joint endeavour through your feedback and ideas. Because we believe that a city is truly liveable only when everyone in it can feel that they matter.

Thank you for placing your trust in me and for honouring me with your attention; I am confident that, together, we can continue to build the inclusive, loving and liveable city we all long for.
