Roma Local Council of Pécs

When the Pécs Roma Ethnic Minority Self-Government was established, it made it clear that its remit would not be limited to preserving Roma traditions and fostering the Roma language. Its objectives include establishing a self-sustaining social organisation; it contributes to the performance of local and public space duties, as well as the town maintenance duties in neighbourhoods inhabited by disadvantaged groups, using local labour, whilst taking on additional tasks specific to the neighbourhood. It regards maintaining contact with municipal committees, civil society organisations operating in the social sector and Roma organisations as an important task, and assists in coordination and the establishment of cooperation agreements. It operates a client service centre where residents can access local council services and legal aid.
