The works of applied folk artist, Éva Mosonyi

Éva Mosonyi was born in Pécs where she learnt from her grandmother, who had come from Kékesd, the art of egg decorating and the use of traditional patterns. She has been doing and teaching egg decorating using different techniques including painting, etching, and decorating with hot wax. She has collected the rich patterns found in the Carpathian Basin. She has created all the patterns she has collected establishing her unique collection called Treasury of Egg Decoration Patterns. Her annual exhibitions promote and preserve the art of egg decorating. Ten years ago, she was awarded the honorary title of applied folk artist in egg decorating and has been awarded the title of Excellent Craftsman established by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is a member of Hive Association. She is the founding member and the president of the Association of Egg Decorators including remarkable egg decorators in Hungary. She has written books and is known for the Hungarian records she holds.

Her collection features over 2200 decorated eggs – all of which she has created using various patterns and techniques. The collection was inspired by Pécs becoming a cultural capital of Europe in 2010. She decided to make as many decorated eggs as the year of Pécs becoming a European cultural capital. After four years of hard work, she finished her collection that was exhibited in Dome Museum. She has been adding hand-made decorated eggs to her exhibition ever since.
