The Ukrainian Local Council of Pécs was re-established in October 2019 in this exceptionally beautiful, multi-ethnic town at the foot of the Mecsek Hills. They consider it important to nurture and preserve their own traditions and customs, and to celebrate their festivals in a fitting manner. Their aim is to foster Ukrainian traditions and bring the community together, whilst involving as many young people as possible. In addition to organising events, the ethnic self-government wishes to support members of the Ukrainian community living in Pécs, as well as to identify and support talented individuals. The way of life, traditions, cuisine, weddings and other rituals of the Ukrainian people are carried on not only by the older generation but also by the younger generation. The depth of the Ukrainian people’s spirit is reflected in their cuisine, songs, dances and traditional dress.
